About Our Staff

We recruit High School and College students ages 17 and above. Those who are 18 years old and above comprise 80% of our staff who are directly responsible for our campers.

All potential Hoblitzelle staff members go through an extensive application and interview process. Before any applicant is interviewed we must have their application completed in its entirety, and all character references (2 personal, 1 pastoral) for the applicant must be returned to the Camp Director.

U.S. Staff 18 yrs. and over, with their consent, have a police background check done through Sterling infosystems, Inc International staff must have a police background check done in their home country (properly translated in English).

The Salvation Army Statement of Applicant for Employment Involving Work with Children disclosure is completed by each hired staff regardless of age or U.S. citizenship status.

Hoblitzelle Summer Camp staff comes from all corners of the world. Since the mid-1990's 10% or more of our summer camp staff have come from overseas through the J-1 Visa Cultural Exchange program.

As for the other 90%, the state of Texas makes up a large part of our staff as well as others hailing from different states of the USA. Our diverse staff team enables Hoblitzelle to provide a well-rounded program for the children and a chance to learn more about the world in which we live, as well as, an opportunity to interact with others from different cultures.

Camp Standards mandate that the camp director shall conduct and document preseason orientation and training for the staff. The camp director shall include the following in the orientation; verbal discussion and printed materials on policies and procedures, including, but not limited to:

  • Personnel policies and practices
  • Job descriptions
  • Disciplinary policies
  • Basic principles of emergency first aid, blood borne pathogens, infection control, and hand washing practices
  • Emergency procedures
  • Daily health surveillance procedures
  • Lost camper policies
  • Issues related to child abuse prevention and neglect
  • Any other expectations of the camp director, as applicable

As an accredited American Camp Association (ACA) camp, Hoblitzelle's commitment to provide a safe and nurturing environment for your children goes beyond basic licensing requirements. ACA Standards address specific areas of programming, personnel, health care, emergency response, and management practices and youth development. Standards are applied to all activities in camp including aquatics, adventure and challenge activities.
